BLOOD PRESSURE

MONITORING

BULLHEAD CITY - Free blood pressure monitoring is available from 9 a.m. to noon every Tuesday at Fire Station 1 on Hancock Road. Volunteers are needed to relieve the regulars. For information call 928-758-4064.

CANCER SUPPORT

BULLHEAD CITY - We Care Cancer Support Center, at 1225 Hancock Road, Suite 202, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer patients along with their caregivers and family members. We Care Cancer Support Center hosts Reach to Recovery for Breast Cancer, Man to Man for Prostate Cancer, Look Good/Feel Better for skin care and make-up. All consultants are trained and certified by the American Cancer Society with annual re-certification. We Care Cancer Support Center offers patients items they may need to continue with their quality of life at no cost to them or their families and will soon have a new program in place that will help patients who are in treatment get to and from their sessions without worrying if they have enough money for gas. w The Comfort Zone is a non-profit organization which meets the third Wednesday of each month from 1-3 p.m. at 1984 Highway 95, suite 4. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the summer.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT

BULLHEAD CITY - The Bullhead City Caregiver Support Group meets at 10 a.m. the first Monday of every month in the boardroom of WARMC. Diane Schwartz of WARMC and Hali Rogers of Sunridge Village are co-facilitators of the group, which is sponsored by the Western Arizona Council of Governments and WARMC.

The mission of the Caregivers Support Group is to provide a warm, supportive environment for caregivers, family and friends of a loved one with a debilitating illness, and to promote sharing of concerns, problem-solving, resources and informal counseling. CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION

BULLHEAD CITY - Western Arizona Regional Medical Center is offering childbirth education classes. Expectant parents will learn about labor, delivery, medications, breast feeding and newborn care. Class takes place from 1-5 p.m. the first Saturday of each month in Building 2. There is a $5 fee per new mothers for the manual. Expectant parents are encouraged to sign up for the class one month before their due date.Call Kim Baird at 928-763-0676.

COMPULSIVE EATERS ANONYMOUS

BULLHEAD CITY - Compulsive Eaters Anonymous meets at 6 p.m. every Thursday in the conference room at Riviera Baptist Church, 922 Marina Blvd.

FLU SHOTS

BULLHEAD CITY - Flu shots will be given to members of Western Arizona Regional Medical Center's Senior Circle and adults over the age of 50 from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 19 in the WARMC Professional Building 2, directly across the street from the hospital on Silver Creek Road.

The cost is $15 and no insurance will be accepted, although people who receive flu shots can receive a receipt to submit for insurance reimbursement.

FRIENDS RECOVERY CENTER

BULLHEAD CITY - The Friends Recovery Center, which serves adults with mental illness and substance-abuse disorders, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1610 Riverview Drive. The recovery center is one of six operated by Nazcare in northern Arizona.

GAMBLERS ANONYMOUS

BULLHEAD CITY - Gamblers Anonymous meetings for people who want to stop gambling are at noon and 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays at 580 Hancock Road, and at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Senior Center, 2275 Trane Road. Call 928-763-0888.

HALO BREAST PAP TEST

BULLHEAD CITY - Dr. Christina Goldstein-Charbonneau of the All Women's Medical Center will offer insight into how the non-invasive five minute HALO breast pap test can detect precancerous abnormalities when she addresses the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center's November Healthy Women event at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce on Highway 95. HEARING LOSS

BULLHEAD CITY - The Hearing Loss Association of America is an organization dedicated to serving the needs of people with hearing loss, their family, friends, co-workers and employers. HELP SUPPORT GROUPS

BULLHEAD CITY - HELP (Help Eliminate Lotsa Problems) support groups are available for people who have issues with tobacco, alcohol or drug use, weight gain, depression, anger and other issues.

WELLNESS SUPPORT

FORT MOJAVE - A holistic wellness support group, led by licensed massage therapist Marci Morris and nutrition expert Dr. Vicky Elliott, meets at noon the first Thursday of every month inside the serenity garden at the Oasis under the Palms Wellness Day Spa on Highway 95 at Joy Lane. KNEE/HIP REPLACEMENT

FORT MOJAVE - A free class for people planning knee and hip replacements is held at 3 p.m. the fourth Thursday of every month at Valley View Medical Center, 5330 S. Highway 95. The class explains medical procedures, the anticipated course of events, possible assistive devices and equipment needs, post-operative experiences, pain management and answers questions. LUNCHES FOR SENIORS

BULLHEAD CITY - The Bullhead City Senior Nutrition Center serves lunches for persons 60 and older for a suggested donation of $2 per meal. Lunch is served beginning at 11:30 a.m. Monday-Friday, except holidays. Seniors are welcome to come in early for a bowl of cereal for a small donation, or a cup of coffee, or just to read a magazine. BULLHEAD CITY - The Colorado River Ostomy Chapter of the United Ostomy Association of America meets at 9:30 a.m. the second Monday of the month in the classroom at Valley View Medical Center. The goal of the group is management of skin and appliance issues and reaching out to people with ostomies in the community. PARENTING AUTISM CHALLENGES TOGETHER

KINGMAN - Meetings of Parenting Autism Challenges Together (PACT) are held from 6 to 7 p.m. every fourth Tuesday of the month at Manzanita Preschool, 2901 Detroit Ave., room 52, in Kingman. Child care is provided by a staff of qualified personnel.

This month the group is focusing on safety issues and autism. Information will be provided on the smart card program and medical alert and how they both play a role in keeping special kids safe and give parents peace of mind.

TRI-STATE - The Southern Nevada Peri-Menopause Support Group meets at 2:30 p.m. PST the third Wednesday of each month at various locations.

CARE CENTER

BULLHEAD CITY - The Pregnancy Care Center, 2636 Highway 95, Suite 14, provides free pregnancy testing from 1-5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Appointments are necessary. All services are free and confidential. The “earn while you learn” prenatal/parenting program allows a participant to earn credits to receive diapers and other needed baby items. Referrals for community resources are provided along with peer support and mentoring. The Pregnancy Care Center is a nonprofit service operated by volunteers. PRESCHOOL SCREENING

TRI-STATE - The Mohave Desert Coalition of the federal Early Reading First Program, the pre-school program in Mohave Valley and Fort Mojave, is expanding to include developmentally delayed and “typical” pre-school children. Parents of pre-school children ages 2.5-5 years who suspect that their child may have a developmental handicap should contact a Mohave Valley elementary school. SUPPORT GROUP

BULLHEAD CITY - The Pulmonary Support Group will hold its regular meeting at 11 a.m. today at the Shrine Building, 2580 Miracle Mile.

Meetings of the Pulmonary Support Group are free of charge and open to anyone with pulmonary problems and their guests. Meetings are at 11 a.m. the first Thursday of the month at the Shrine Building and lunch at 11:30 a.m. the third Wednesday at the Bullhead City Pizza Hut.

HEALTH TALK

TRI-STATE - Western Arizona Regional Medical Center's Senior Circle invites members and adults age 50 and older to attend the health presentation of Dr. Isaac Thapedi, WARMC neurosurgeon. Dr. Thapedi will speak about “minimally invasive spine procedures,” including the benefits and when these techniques are appropriate. He will also be happy to answer your questions.

SILVER RIDGE ALZHEIMER'S UNIT

BULLHEAD CITY - The monthly support group of the Silver Ridge Village Alzheimer's Unit hopes to offer vital links to family members of Alzheimer's patients and other caregivers and the opportunity to learn more about the disease as well as ways of coping. Silver Ridge is located at 2812 Silver Creek Road.

STOP SMOKING CLASSES

BULLHEAD CITY - The following classes are offered by the Mohave County Tobacco Use Prevention Program (McTUPP) for those interested in quitting smoking:
