APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - Mohave Accelerated Learning Center was in the game until the middle of the third quarter, but Apache Trail High School used its superior size and strength to outmuscle the Patriots, 48-18, on Friday.
The Patriots trailed 18-12 at halftime, MALC head coach Don McLain said. After MALC tied it 18-18 with a touchdown on its first possession in the second half, Apache Trail's dominance began during its next possession.
“Their big bodies wore us out,” McLain said. “They beat up on us a lot.”
MALC quarterback Chris Warden gained 139 yards on 10 carries, McLain said. He also passed for 156 yards.
Danny Warden had 96 yards on 10 carries, the first-year MALC head coach said. He also had 76 yards receiving, which included touchdown grabs of 45 and 21 yards.
McLain said Guy Muniz caught three passes for 55 yards.
“The Warden boys did good,” McLain said, “and Guy Muniz made a lot of tackles.”
The Arizona Charter Athletic Association Charter-B Patriots' loss dropped their record to 3-3, 3-2 in region, and the win elevated ATHS' to 6-0, 5-0 in region. |
