LAUGHLIN — The Laughlin Democrat Club will be participating in the 2018 Democrat Precinct Caucus. The scheduled date of the statewide Nevada Democrat Caucus is Saturday, Feb. 24.
In non-presidential years, there are precinct caucuses held solely to elect delegates to the county convention, who in turn elects delegates to the state convention where members are elected to the State Central Committee. There are no preference groups, delegate math, realignment or other features that occur in presidential years when not tasked with selecting a preference for the party’s presidential nominee.
2018 caucus dates are: precinct caucuses are Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m.; registration begins at 9 a.m.; County Convention in rural counties will be Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. For Washoe and Clark Counties the convention will be Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m.
The State Convention will be Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24 in Reno.
A sample precinct caucus agenda looks like: 9 a.m. registration opens; 10 a.m. caucus called to order by temporary chair or county chair; explanation of primary purpose of the precinct caucus; election of temporary or county chair; election of caucus secretary; speeches by elected officials and candidates; read selected letters from elected officials and statewide candidates; break into precinct caucuses, if necessary; elect delegates and alternates; submit names for consideration to county central committee; submit proposed platform resolutions; new business and caucus adjourns at 11 a.m.
Volunteers are needed along with Democrats who wish to attend the county and state conventions. Send email to Terry Ursini at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 702-420-6821.
