Makenna Castillo rips through the individual medley in the Sandsharks’ opening event June 1. The 12-year-old topped all swimmers’ scores for girls of that age group in the Bullhead City Invitational on June 8.

BULLHEAD CITY — The Barracudas won their Bullhead City Invitational June 8 with a combined team score of 1,537. Needles’ Sandsharks, collectively, scored 920; the Cottonwood Clippers 325.

There were five age and gender category winners each for the ’Cudas and ’Sharks; two for the Clippers. Bullhead and Needles also tied in the mixed relay events with three each.

Topping all swimmers in their respective age and gender categories, Needles’ Kade Odell, 14, Lincoln Jones, 11, and Joslyn Jones, 8, swept all five of their events to earn 45 points each; 5-year-old Layton DeLeon and 12-year-old Makenna Castillo topped their categories with 38 points apiece.

Exclusive of relay events Bullhead’s boys led the way in the meet, posting 627 points to Needles’ 284 and Cottonwood’s 137. The Lady ’Cudas scored 522 to the ’Sharks’ 396 and the Clippers’ 112.
