NEEDLES — The project consisting of installing 16 cameras with video recording within the El Garces building has been completed by Data Gear Inc.

According to background information provided by the city of Needles staff, the cameras were placed in the transit waiting area, near the fountain and the front entrance of the building and the project was completed on April 13. The background information goes on to state that with the building automatically unlocking for train passengers upon arrival, the city has experienced some vandalism.

The background information states that the construction total to place the 16 cameras came out to $24,526.59. The cost for the project was funded by California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) grant funds.

The city council approved the completed work by Data Gear Inc. for installation of security cameras in and around the El Garces in the amount of $24,529.59 during their council meeting on May 8.
