Summer reading program at Needles Branch Library

Adela Covarrubias warms up her young audience for a Summer Reading Program presentation at the Needles Branch Library with tales of Death Valley and the inevitable comparison to Needles. Weekly incentives and chances in an opportunity drawing complement the satisfaction of reading in the county library program which continues through Aug. 3. This year’s theme is Tales of Enchantment. Local presentations are Tuesdays between 3 and 4 p.m. and include deputies from Needles’ Colorado River Station of the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department demonstrating boating safety on July 2; physical fitness with Al Hernandez on July 9; Park Ranger Sam from Katherine Landing on July 16; trick roping from Cowboy Ken Frawley on July 23; and California Highway Patrol Officer Joseph Medina, with his patrol car, on July 30. The library is in the city/county complex, 1111 Bailey Ave. at J Street.
