Summer reading program begins at library

Librarian Joan Meis-Wilson examines selections from a stack of 130 new books for beginning readers on the shelves just in time for the summer reading program at the Needles Branch Library. The books, Meis-Wilson explained, came from a competition the Needles staff won at a library district meeting. The summer reading program begins June 10. If the local library can beat last year’s numbers and sign up more than 229 readers this summer there’s a possibility of winning even more books. Readers win too, with a variety of incentives and prizes offered for this year’s program. Visit the Needles Branch of the San Bernardino County Library in the city/county complex, 1111 Bailey Ave. at J Street. Visit the library Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pacific Time; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed Friday and Sunday.
