NEEDLES — Two community items were announced at the May 14 city council meeting that had not previously been brought to the attention of the Needles Desert Star.

Skate Day

Skate park users are asked to join forces with the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department’s Colorado River Station from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Needles Skate Park, in Duke Watkins Park along J Street.

The event promises limited quantities of free skate safety equipment and free food distributed on a first-come first-served basis plus a chance to win a custom handmade longboard and other prizes.

All can get a closer look at the department’s patrol cars, off road vehicles and other equipment. The goal is to foster cooperation between deputies and skate park users to make the park a crime free zone.

Housing plan update

The community is asked to provide input on the housing element of the city’s general plan in two meetings at 1111 Bailey Ave., presumably in council chambers. They are set for:

• Tuesday, May 21, at noon; and

• Thursday, May 30, at 5:30 p.m.
