RESISTING ARREST/ENDANGERMENT, FORT MOHAVE — Michael Lee Hand, 52, of Fort Mohave, was arrested Sunday after Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of recovered property at a parking lot in the 4800 block of Highway 95. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the 73-year-old victim, who reportedly said that he had reported a theft of his Diamondback Outlook mountain bicycle to the sheriff’s office on Jan. 31. The victim also reportedly said that he had saw Hand, a former neighbor, with his bicycle, and Hand was at that time panhandling on the corner of Aztec Road and Highway 95. The victim advised the deputy of unique descriptors to identify his bicycle, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Trish Carter said. Deputies went to the corner and contacted the subject identified as Hand. Deputies asked Hand how he arrived at the location, Carter said, and Hand said that he had arrived on his bicycle. Deputies noted that the bicycle matched the unique descriptors, she said. Hand reportedly denied having stolen the bicycle. He started running when deputies told him that he was under arrest, Carter said. She said deputies caught up with Hand and grabbed his clothing from behind, but Hand continued to pull away and head toward Aztec Road. Deputies grabbed Hand’s waist and brought him to the ground as they were about five feet from traffic, Carter said. Hand reportedly continued to resist and ignored deputies’ orders. Deputies further restrained Hand and took him into custody. He was booked on suspicion of resisting arrest and endangerment, felonies, and possession of stolen property, misdemeanor. Hand was taken to the Mohave County Jail in Kingman.
