BULLHEAD CITY — Fire Department crews arrived to see smoke showing at Arizona Sunset Suites, a three-story extended-stay hotel at 2220 Rancho Colorado at 7:50 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a fire there.
There were no injuries reported from the incident.
Battalion Chief Justin Flummer immediately requested a second alarm response through dispatch adding further assistance, including the Citizens Emergency Response Team.
All tenants were in the process of evacuating the building when Firefighter/Paramedic Jamie Lucchino located smoke coming from an exterior column on the east side of the building.
Quickly extinguishing the fire, crew members from Engine 731, Engine 751 and Engine 711 opened up the remaining stairwell encasement, checking for additional hidden fires using a thermal imaging camera.
The displaced occupants were taken to the Suddenlink Center with the assistance of the Police Department and the Bullhead City Area Transit Bus System. A request was made for the Red Cross to respond and provide assistance to the 54 occupants that were evacuated, if needed.
Fire investigators arrived on the scene and began to look for a possible cause. It was determined all the occupants would be able to return after the investigation was completed.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
