NEEDLES — Mohave County Sherifff’s deputies have recovered the body of an unidentified man from the Colorado River.

At about 11:20 a.m. Saturday, Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area north of Pirate Cove on the Colorado River in reference to a possible deceased person floating in the river, said Anita Mortensen, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. On arrival, deputies immediately were able to identify the item floating in the river as a deceased man.

Deputies made contact with the reporting party, who had seen the body floating and immediately contacted 911 and remained near the body to assist law enforcement in locating it, Mortensen said. The man’s body was removed from the river. The man was wearing a black tank top, black pants, and black sneaker-style shoes. The man appeared to be of Native American descent, about 240 pounds and 6-foot-3 tall.

Several tattoos were located on the body, but deputies were unable to identify what they were due to decomposition.

It appeared to deputies that the body had been in the water for about three days, Mortensen said.

Deputies were unable to identify the man; they did not locate any identification on or near the body. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office at 928-753-0753.
