AAU Basketball

The local Amateur Athletic Union basketball team Colorado River Voltage is composed of nine players — ages 16 and under (16U) — from Mohave High School and Mohave Accelerated Learning Center. Shown are MALC’s Josh Neal, left, and Lucas Leslie. The squad has been in existence for about a decade and is run by local coaches and volunteers in different age brackets. “We should be very competitive, with good height and athleticism,” said coach Scott Neal. Participants include Hayden Williams, Lucas Leslie, Josh Neal, Ramon Lopez, Steven Lopez, Aden Honegger, Gabe Vollaire, Tyson Banks and Nate Blake. The Voltage will play in local tournaments as they become available and at least two AAU tournaments in Las Vegas. “The schedule is still materializing as states open up summer activities. No June tournaments have shown up on the calendar,” said Neal. The goal of AAU basketball, he said, is to expose players to different competition, styles of play and exposure for college coaches.
