BULLHEAD CITY — Kaige Geyer completed an incredible three-game stretch, going 4-for-4 with a homer and a triple, four runs scored and seven RBI to lead the Mohave Valley Cubs to the promised land.
Shangra La translated into the District 9 Minors Little League Tournament of Champions title after the Cubs outscored the Lake Havasu Little League Rattlers 21-20 during the final at Ed Parry Park in Needles on Thursday night.
“It was super exciting,” said Cubs manager Keven Geyer. “It was up and down, back and forth. Both teams played very well, but we happened to pull out the win.”
Gunner Ulibarri singled twice, knocked in two runs, scored three runs and walked in four at-bats; Drake Knight tripled, had three RBI, scored one run and walked in four at-bats; and Dayna Apton went 1-for-2 for the Cubs.
Ulibarri pitched the final two innings to earn the victory.
The Rattlers’ pitching staff isssued nine walks and hit one Cub hitter, in addition to surrending eight hits.
ALMOST BATS 1.000: Geyer went 10-for-11 for a robust .910 batting average, with two home runs, three triples, 17 RBI and 10 runs scored with two walks during the three-game, TOC series.
“We’re super proud of him,” Manager Geyer said. “He played extremely well.”
