BULLHEAD CITY — Kingzsten Bristol doubled twice and had one RBI, but that was not enough for the Bullhead City D-backs.
After the BHCLL squad took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Needles responded with two runs of its own in its first and three more in its third.
Needles went on to win 5-1 in 51/2 innings during
the first round of the District 9 Majors Little League Tournament of Champions in Blythe, California, on Monday night.
Bristol doubled home Alex Avalos, who tripled, which accounted for BHCLL’s lone run.
The D-backs mustered just three hits against Needles’ pitching staff.
“We just got shut down,” said BHCLL manager Johnny Avalos. “We had 11 strikeouts on our team — not a good day.”
Pedro Marentes and Bristol pitched the first four innings, and Manager Avalos said Pedro and Kingzsten both have a “mean curveball.”
Hayden Ubranczyk hurled the final two innings for the D-backs.
When he was asked about how he addressed his D-backs following the loss, Manager Avalos said he told his ballplayers: “Keep your heads up; we had a great season.
“For most of you, we still have all-stars.”
MAJORS ALL-STARS: The BHC 10-12 All-Stars will begin competing in the District 9 Little League Tournament All-Stars on June 24 in Lake Havasu.
Manager Avalos texted results.
